ASO274The latest recording

Recorded live from the Bard Music Festival in August 2014, this rare and delightful opera chronicles the story of a woman unjustly accused of unfaithfulness, at a time when such accusations could be fatal.  Weber and his librettist Helmina von Chezy shine an insightful and critical light onto the lengths to which women must go to live up to unrealistic ideals imposed on them, and the intolerance and cruelty that border this treacherous path. An opera as much of today as of Weber’s day, and full of breathtakingly beautiful music.
